One of the questions I hear most often after a day of diving or snorkeling is surprisingly simple:
"Where can we find the best tacos in Sayulita?" After living in Sayulita for more than 20 years, I've watched this little surf town grow into one of Mexico's most popular beach destinations. During that time, I've probably eaten tacos at almost every taquería in town.
People usually expect me to hand them a long list of recommendations.
The truth is... I always recommend the same two places.
Not because they're fashionable.
Not because they're famous on social media.
Simply because they're the places I still choose for myself after all these years.
If you're only going to eat tacos twice while you're here, these are the ones I believe you shouldn't miss.
The Best Al Pastor Tacos in Sayulita If you ask me where to eat the best tacos al pastor in Sayulita, my answer is always the same:
This small local taquería doesn't try to impress anyone with fancy décor or elaborate menus.
It lets the food speak for itself.
The pork slowly rotates on the traditional trompo, developing the perfect balance of smoky flavor, spices and caramelized edges before being sliced directly onto warm tortillas.
Every taco is simple, authentic and incredibly flavorful.
But what truly makes this place stand out is something many visitors overlook...

The Salsa Bar
For me, the salsa bar is just as important as the tacos.
From fresh green salsa to roasted tomato, creamy avocado and spicy habanero, every sauce has its own personality.
I always encourage visitors to try several combinations because each salsa completely changes the flavor of the taco.
My Recommendation
If it's your first visit, order:
Al Pastor Taco
Al Pastor with Cheese
And don't be afraid to experiment with the different salsas.
That's part of the experience.
Home of My Favorite Arrachera Taco
If Tacos Díaz represents traditional Mexican street tacos...
El Itacate represents Sayulita's creative side.
This restaurant has become one of the town's icons, and for good reason.
Whenever friends or family come to visit me, it's almost always one of our stops.
My Favorite: The Arrachera Taco
If I could only order one taco here...
It would be the Arrachera Taco.
Tender grilled steak, fresh ingredients and incredible flavor without trying to overcomplicate things.
Sometimes simple really is better.
Don't Leave Without Trying the Chicharrón de Queso
If you're feeling hungry, there's another specialty you shouldn't miss.
The famous Chicharrón de Queso.
Instead of wrapping the taco in a tortilla, it's wrapped in crispy grilled cheese.
Is it healthy?
Probably not.
Is it unforgettable?
Absolutely.
It's one of those dishes that people continue talking about long after they've left Sayulita.

A Local Tip
One thing I've learned after living here for more than two decades is that the best food experiences usually aren't the expensive ones.
They're the small family-owned places where locals have been eating for years.
Good food.
Friendly people.
Authentic flavors.
That's what makes Sayulita special.
The Perfect Ending to an Ocean Adventure
There's a tradition that many of our guests naturally discover.
Start your morning with a great coffee.
Spend the day diving, snorkeling, surfing or exploring the Marietas Islands.
Finish the afternoon with amazing tacos.
It's a simple plan...
But it's one of the reasons so many people fall in love with Sayulita.
Sebastian's Recommendation
These are not sponsored recommendations.
Nobody asked me to write about these restaurants.
These are simply the two taco places I continue visiting after more than 20 years living in Sayulita.
Will everyone agree?
Probably not.
Food is personal.
But if you ask me where I'd go tonight...
These are the places I'd choose.
