La Corbeteña is an offshore volcanic pinnacle and one of the most technically demanding advanced dive sites in Puerto Vallarta. Rising from deep blue water to a shallowest point of approximately 35 meters, this exposed oceanic formation creates ideal conditions for pelagic encounters and dynamic blue-water diving.

The typical dive profile averages 25 meters, following the contours of the pinnacle across volcanic rock structures, sand patches, and vertical drop-offs. Due to its offshore location, divers should expect variable currents, potential drift conditions, and limited natural reference points beyond the rock formation itself.

This site is conducted as a two-tank advanced dive excursion and is recommended for experienced divers comfortable with depth, current, and open-ocean conditions.

Is La Corbeteña suitable for Open Water divers?
No. This is an advanced offshore dive. Advanced certification and a minimum of 20 logged dives are required due to depth, current, and exposure.
How deep is La Corbeteña?
The maximum depth is approximately 35 meters, with an average dive profile around 25 meters. It is considered a deep dive site.
Are strong currents common?
Currents are variable and can be moderate to strong. Drift diving is conducted when conditions require it. Divers must be comfortable in moving water.
Is this a drift dive?
It can be. Drift conditions depend on the day’s current. Some dives may allow partial shelter around the pinnacle.
Is Nitrox required?
Nitrox is not mandatory but strongly recommended due to the depth profile and repetitive two-tank schedule.
What marine life can I expect to see?
La Corbeteña is known for pelagic encounters including manta rays, sharks, tuna, large jacks, and massive schools of fish. Sightings vary by season.
Is it safe for less experienced Advanced divers?
Divers should be recently active, comfortable with depth, and confident with buoyancy and air consumption. This is not a “first Advanced dive” site.
How far is the boat ride?
Approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes offshore. Sea conditions can vary.
